WRAS, which stands for Water Regulations Advisory Scheme, is a certification mark that demonstrates that an item complies with the high standards set out by water regulations.
The Water Regulations Approval Scheme is an independent UK certification body for plumbing products and materials, helping business and consumers choose compliant products that keep water safe.
The WRAS certification includes material certification and product certification.
1. Material certification
The testing scope of material certification includes all materials that come into contact with water, such as plumbing pipes, faucets, valve components, rubber products, plastics, etc. Materials that may be used in the manufacturing of related equipment must comply with British BS6920 or BS5750 PART standards.If non-metallic materials comply with the requirements of BS6920:2000 (the suitability of non-metallic products for water use in contact with humans based on their impact on water quality), they can be certified by WRAS.
The material testing required by WRAS is as follows:
A. The odor and taste of water in contact with the material will not change
B. The appearance of the material in contact with water will not change
C. Will not cause the growth and breeding of aquatic microorganisms
D. Toxic metals will not precipitate
E. Will not contain or release substances that affect public health
Material testing must be certified, otherwise mechanical testing cannot be carried out on the entire product. By passing the level appraisal, customers who require the product to meet relevant standards can be confident that the product will not cause water consumption, abuse, improper use, or pollution – the four provisions of water regulations.
2. Product Certification
The mechanical properties of the product are tested according to various European and British standards and regulatory authorities’ specifications based on the product type.
